I was very insecure because I was so used to having long hair but I learned so much about myself. I also gained so much confidence from learning to accept myself in my most uncomfortable moments.
YBN: How long have you been natural and what inspired you to transition?
DK: I have been completely natural since June 28th 2014. I was inspired to begin my transition by a friend of mine who was transitioning from heat damage. I was amazed at how many styles she was able to do. The versatility really captured me.
YBN: Did you big chop? If so, how did it make you feel after you decided to make the drastic change?
DK: Yes I big chopped! After doing so I was terrified! I was very insecure because I was so used to having long hair but I learned so much about myself. I also gained so much confidence from learning to accept myself in my most uncomfortable moments.
YBN: Who are some of your YouTube natural hair inspirations?
DK: Naptural85, April Bee, Brandi Lou, Mahogany Curls, Mini Marley, Natural Neicey, Journey2WaistLength, the list goes on!
YBN: What is your favorite, easy to do, hair style?
DK: My favorite style changes all the time, but right now I would say a perm rod set. My easy hairstyle that I have definitely mastered would be my Wash & Go
YBN: What are some of your must have hair products?
DK: Eco Styler Gel and Carol's Daughter Leave In Conditioner Spray seem to be the products I always have to replace when I run out.
YBN: What advice would you give someone who seems to have a struggle with loving and accepting their natural hair?
DK: As hard as it may be definitely have patience and learn to embrace every stage you are in. It's not always pretty, often times it's frustrating, but it is so worth it. Don't compare yourself to Naturalista's you see on Youtube and Instagram because trust me they get frustrated as well. Also follow natural hair pages so that you can continuously be inspired throughout your journey!
